1. LECTURES
Recap of Task 3 brief :
We had done some visual analysis in Task 2 . Based on the idea we presented in Task 2, we will have to create a design for Task 3. We must use our knowledge of design concepts to improve the chosen drawing and produce the finished design. Our final visual message can be conveyed using any pertinent medium or content. This blog will show my progresses and how we concluded at a decision.
2. INSTRUCTIONS
SELECTED IDEA - SKETCH 3

Title : Explosion Emerging from a Suit
Rationale: My third sketch integrates symmetry, balance, and emphasis to create a
surreal and thought-provoking composition. The suit without a head immediately
grabs attention, with the explosion seamlessly replacing it,
acting as a visual metaphor for
pressure, transformation, or chaos. The placement of the stopwatch at the center acts as a
secondary focal point, reinforcing the idea of time running
out. The color contrast between the
red background and the bright orange explosion enhances the
dramatic effect, while the repetition of circular and jagged
forms in the explosion adds rhythm and movement. The suit’s structured, clean lines contrast with the
chaotic shapes above, creating an effective play between order and disorder. Texture and layering within the
explosion give it depth, making it feel more dynamic and
intense. The unity of elements—particularly how the stopwatch
and explosion work together—ties the design into a single
cohesive statement. The symbolism of time, control, and destruction is evident,
inviting the viewer to contemplate the deeper meaning behind
the imagery.
3. PROGRESS WORK
1. After drawing the background, I added some texture on the background
to give the contrast to my background and the character
2. Then, I sketched the suit with some shading and a stopwatch
shape.
3. After adding the suit, i added tie and drew the stopwatch with
explosion replacing the head to create focal point
4. Next, I drew small elements of explosion effect to give movement to my
drawing.
5. Lastly, I finalized everything by adding glow and shading to my
drawing
Composition
1. CONTRAST
The main point is highlighted by the explosion's vivid orange and
yellow hues, which contrast dramatically with the dark suit.
Additionally, the textured, aged background contrasts with the
explosion's bright white core.
2. EMPHASIS
Attention is instantly drawn to the head being replaced by an
explosion, which heightens the dramatic and bizarre impression.
Another secondary focal point that directs the viewer's attention
downward is the clock set within the chest.
3. BALANCE
The figure is positioned in the center of the symmetrical composition,
which gives stability even in the face of the chaotic eruption.
The clock and explosion line up to maintain an equitable distribution
of visual weight.
4. TEXTURE
The suit and explosion are rendered more smoothly than the background,
which has a rough, almost aged-paper quality.
The explosion feels energetic and natural because of its artistic
appearance.
5. MOVEMENT AND RHYTHM
The viewer's eye is drawn upward by the powerful impression of movement
produced by the swirling smoke and blast effects.
Visual rhythm is added by the sporadic explosion effects in the comic
book manner.
6. SYMBOLISM
The head being replaced by an explosion might represent tension,
overanalyzing, or an epiphany.
The clock alludes to existential issues as well as notions of time and
urgency.
7. COLOR THEORY
The artwork is visually remarkable due to the contrast between the chilly
tones of the suit and the warm colors of the explosion.
The warm explosion is softly complemented by the blue tie, which creates
color harmony.
8. UNITY
Even though there are several components (explosion, suit, clock), they
are all connected by a unified color scheme and blending methods.
4. FINALIZED ARTWORK
Meerabella Charles_Suppressed Dreams_Task 3
This work of painting examines the psychological conflict that arises when someone suppresses their actual goals out of fear of failing. The main character stands in for a person who, overcome by hesitancy and self-doubt, decided to bury their lofty goals deep inside. The figure's head exploding represents the mental and emotional anguish brought on by suppressing their dreams. They let their worries to rule them instead of reaching their full potential, which resulted in an unbearable weight inside of them. A warning that postponing one's aspirations only results in regret, the pocket watch set into the chest represents time passing. The tie's elaborate design symbolizes complexity—the degree to which ambition, emotions, and self-worth can become intricately entwined. The juxtaposition between the bright explosion and the black suit, however, emphasizes the contrast between the interior chaos and the external calm. In a future they are too scared to claim, the bright light in the background represents the person's actual self—the potential they could have embraced.
The repercussions of self-imposed constraints are shown in this piece. It exhorts viewers to face their anxieties, accept their goals, and understand that pursuing what genuinely excites them is the only path to liberation.
